Oliver is a funny little guy. From before he even left the womb he has had hiccups almost every day – so I thought maybe some of you guys out there might enjoy these videos – showing him with the hiccups on a few seperate occasions. I wasn’t able to edit them since my computer editing software wasn’t available at the time – so I apologize for the abrupt endings – but other than that – enjoy!

The above video is from day after he was born.

The above video is the 2nd day after he was born

The above video is part one of two that were taken when Oliver was 6 days old. It’s amazing how much he’s changed in a handful of days!

Awake time.

We always look forward to the times when Oliver is awake and not crying because he needs something & with newborns that’s what they do most of the time they are awake – at least that holds true for Oliver & that’s what I’ve been told. Anyways, whenever we catch him in those moments where he is content to just look at us and make faces we take full advantage. So here are some more pictures from a pair of obsessed parents.

Yesterday we had a few weclome visitors.  Around lunchtime Annie’s good friend (Gina) stopped by and brought us lunch from Chipotle – it was yummy.  She held Oliver for a while and he just fell asleep in her arms. We hung out and talked & Oliver really seemed to like Gina. Then my good friend Mike Rowe’s wife Jennifer came by to bring us dinner for that night (her homemade enchiladas – also yummy) & she held Oliver for a little bit too. He was content to look up at her for a little while & then fall asleep. Later on in the afternoon Uncle Kenny stopped in for a few minutes & got some time with Oliver too. For some reason Oliver loves to be held by everyone – I guess you could say he’s a cuddler.

Annie’s cousin (Amy Weber) sent us a few hats she made specifically for Oliver.  They must have taken a lot of time & effort because they look amazing. The other day we decided to try one of them on him to see if it fit yet. It looks like he may need to grow into this one just a little bit more but they still look super cool right?  Thanks Amy!

Sniff Sniff

Annie and I were given some clothes from my sister & bro in law (Abby & Erik) since Oliver’s cousin (Jonah) was too big to ever fit into them. Annie was all excited about one outfit in particular. It has what looks to me like two porcupines & it says sniff sniff. For some reason this directly translates into cries of: “It’s so cute!” or “Awwwww!” from Annie & that was even before Oliver was wearing it! She wanted me to document what little Oliver looked like with this outfit on for her own sake but also so Abby & Erik could see as well. So I took a bunch of shots & above you will see what the result of that “photo session” was. You can make your own judgements – but it seems to be universal that you will probably have the same reaction as Annie did & still does :). By the way the poor little guy has what the dr’s call the newborn rash that looks like red splotchy marks with mosquito bites. According to the dr’s it’s very common & not really a big deal, newborns aren’t really affected by it – it just looks like they’ve been all bitten up. So when you see those shots of his legs you can see how bad it currently is. Don’t worry though, he never attempts to scratch them & we were told it should go away on its own fairly soon.

Just playing around

After Rachel, Erin, Ken & Jo left Annie & I decided to set up the activity center that one of Annie’s friends bought for us. We wanted to see if Oliver would be able to focus on the objects and just be content to lay there. Up to that point when he was awake he was either eating, getting burped, getting his diaper changed or crying because he wanted one of the other things done. So we were hoping we could spend some awake time with him where he wouldn’t have one of those things going on. Sure enough he laid there and stared at Annie & I and maybe a few of the little toys that came with the activity center.  It didn’t last too long, but while he was laying there we took the above pictures & I may be biased but I can’t get over how cute Oliver is.

After a long few nights at the hospital with very little sleep Annie & I came home and discovered our home environment didn’t help Oliver to sleep any better. So we both got about 5 hours of sleep over the first 3 nights after Oliver was born. The good thing about being home though was we were back in our own bed & we know that eventually Oliver will get settled in and get used to his new surroundings. The first day we were home Annie’s sister Rachel, Rachel’s boyfriend Erin, & Annie’s parents came over to say hello. Since Rachel & Erin are in town just for a little while they have to take advantage of every chance they have to see Oliver. So above you can see how overjoyed she was to see him. It was nice to get to hang out with them again.
